PDA's are experiencing a rapid growth in computing power as faster processors, using less power, are being combined with more user-friendly software and wireless technologies. PDAs or Personal Digital Assistant devices come in many forms from simple address books to more complex devices capable of running cut-down versions of microsoft windows, e-mail and even internet browsers. Batteries
Battery technology is crucial to the operation of a PDA. The ideal PDA would take no power at all but in the real world backlights, and processors use lots of power which is derived from a battery. The battery on a PDA is rechargable and usually charged when the PDA is placed in its cradle (see right). The rechargable batteries may be NiCad, Nickel-Metal-Hydride (NiMH) or Lithium-Ion (LiOn) although the Nickel based batteries are cheaper and loose their charge much faster when not in use. Your PDA may also accept non rechargable Alkaline batteries, eith AA or AAA size. Display Modern PDAs have LCD dispays with resolution of QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) or even VGA (640 x 480 pixels). The display needs a backlight in order for you to see it in the dark, and this is typically a LED solution. PDA's are increasingly colour with 262'000 colours producing some very impressive images.
